Groundbreaking Marks Major Expansion for EggSolutions Vanderpol’s and B.C.’s Egg Industry

ABBOTSFORD, B.C. — May 15, 2026 Today, industry leaders, government representatives, and community partners gathered in Abbotsford to celebrate the groundbreaking of a new state-of-the-art facility for EggSolutions Vanderpol’s, marking a significant investment in the future of British Columbia’s egg processing and food manufacturing sector.

The new 65,000 square foot facility, located on 5.32 acres in Abbotsford, represents a major expansion from the company’s current 42,000 square foot operation and will support continued growth, innovation, and economic development within the province’s agriculture and food processing industries. The project is expected to be completed in October 2027.

The event welcomed remarks from Lana Popham, Ross Siemens, representatives from BC Egg Marketing Board, and leadership from EggSolutions Vanderpol’s and Golden Valley Foods.

“This groundbreaking represents more than just a new facility,” said Al Sakalauskas, Chair of the BC Egg Marketing Board.  “It reflects the continued growth, innovation, and long-term sustainability of British Columbia’s egg industry and demonstrates the confidence consumers place in locally produced food.”

British Columbia’s egg sector continues to experience strong growth driven by consumer demand for locally produced, nutritious, and affordable protein. In 2024, B.C. egg farmers produced more than 96 million dozen eggs. In 2025, production increased to more than 106 million dozen eggs, representing nearly 1.3 billion eggs produced across the province.

More than 80 percent of British Columbia’s egg farmers are located in the Fraser Valley, making the region a critical hub for the province’s egg industry and food production system. EggSolutions Vanderpol’s is currently the only egg processing facility in British Columbia, playing an essential role in supporting local farmers and grading stations, ensuring that BC’s food manufacturing and food service industries have access to locally produced egg products.

The new facility will expand EggSolutions Vanderpol’s processing capacity while introducing enhanced microbiology lab and research and development capabilities. The project also includes increased storage and processing capabilities, the addition of a spray dryer system to produce dried egg products for animal feed, and new production lines that will expand product offerings in food service.

The expansion is supported in part by $5 million in repayable funding from the Pacific Economic Development Canada as part of a broader $18.3 million federal investment to help scale B.C. businesses.

EggSolutions Vanderpol’s currently processes approximately 4.5 million eggs each week and is recognized as the first and only producer in North America manufacturing tamagoyaki, a Japanese-style omelet, using specialized equipment. The new facility will support expansion into additional international markets, including Asia, while continuing production of core liquid egg products including albumen, yolk, and whole egg products.

The project also highlights the strength of the broader B.C. egg industry, including the continued growth of Golden Valley Foods, which completed a major renovation in 2023 that increased grading capacity by 43 percent and Fresh Start Foods, a cooperative representing approximately 70 egg farmers and nearly 80 percent of the province’s egg production.

Today’s groundbreaking reinforces the importance of continued investment in food processing infrastructure, innovation, and domestic food production capacity to support long-term food security and economic growth in British Columbia.
