Help Farmers Feed BC: Food Bank Drive

October 9, 2019

Food bank use throughout Canada is growing and 1/3 of Food Bank recipients are children. In BC alone the Food Bank helps 80,000 people every month.

On Thursday, October 10, BC Egg Farmers hosted a food drive at the Fleetwood Save-On-Foods in Surrey to help meet this rising need.

Together with Surrey Food Bank staff and volunteers, and media support from Rock 101 and Daily Hive, BC Egg Farmers donated $825.00 in fresh eggs, collected 309 pounds of food, and raised $726.00 in donations.

To encourage donations, BC Egg also hosted a draw for free eggs for a year for all those who donated on Thursday. The winner was drawn from over 80 entries and was announced on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter the week following the drive.

The Food Bank drive was in honour of World Egg Day and highlighted the commitment BC egg farmers have to feeding their communities.
