Q & A

How many generations has your family been egg farming?

We're first generation egg farmers.

Which family members work on your farm?

Both Sarah and I work on the farm.

How long have you been egg farming?

I was born into agriculture.

Why did you begin egg farming?

We really enjoy livestock production and at the time we had none. We wanted to diversify our farm to supply nutrients (manure) to the crops we were growing, we wanted the stability of the supply management system and we wanted to eventually produce crops we could process for chicken feed on occasion. We also wanted to grow our farm to a viable size that our children can choose to continue farming if they like.

Do you raise any other livestock or crops on your farm?

300 acres of organic grain and forage crops as well as small scale beef production.

What is your favourite part about being an egg farmer?

Morning barn checks!

Why did you choose the production type you use?

Organic production fit nicely with the rest of our farm. We also really like the extra space and outdoor access it affords to the hens.

What would you like consumers to know about egg farmers/egg farming?

We would like consumers to know that we are very proud of our farm, our production practices and the care and attention we give our hens.

What does being an egg farmer mean to you?

It means that we get to wake up every day knowing we make a healthy, whole food product for families across BC. We love being egg farmers!

Who is your feed provider?

We are working towards producing our own organic feed, right here on our farm.

Who is your chick provider?

Hy-line North America

What brand are your eggs sold under?

Golden Valley Foods

Where are your eggs sold?

Grocery stores across BC.
