Why did you begin egg farming?

Darren's family won a 1,000 bird quota in 1994. Since then, more quota has been purchased and the farm has expanded.

What is your favourite part about being an egg farmer?

Being a farmer in general has so many advantages: being your own boss, flexible work schedule, working with animals, and being involved in food production for our province.

Why did you choose the production type you use?

After starting in free range production, we saw that there was interest in organic production. In 2000, we built an organic feed mill on our farm and switched to organic production.

What would you like consumers to know about egg farmers/egg farming?

As egg farmers, we work hard to produce safe food for consumers. It is very important to us that our chickens are healthy and happy. Animal care is not only important to our industry as a whole, but to us personally.

What does being an egg farmer mean to you?

We are both extremely proud to be farmers. Both of us grew up in families that were involved with agriculture and we are honoured to be able to continue working in the industry.

Who is your chick provider?

We buy our day old chicks from Hy-Line and raise them ourselves in our pullet barn.

What brand are your eggs sold under?

We sell our eggs to Island Eggs.

Where are your eggs sold?

They are sold on Vancouver Island at Thrifty's.
